However, unlike yesterday today, the concept of art has returned from the functional division of civilization to the realm of spiritual expression. It is no longer necessary for artists to avoid the writing world as skilled craftsmen specializing in the operation of certain technical materials, and to find the possibility of understanding and expression in a broader cultural space. So, where is the contradiction between "learning" and "art"?

 

During his three years of graduate study, Wu Jianan, Constantly adjust your thinking, Well completed four fieldwork related to the project, Made a more comprehensive and in-depth investigation of the inheritance and transformation of Chinese traditional shadow play art since the founding of New China, And made preliminary results —— seven volumes "Shadow Search", It can be said that it fills a new topic for the study of modern Chinese culture and art, And provide a lot of valuable information for the research of this subject, His graduation theory, "Research on Red Shadow Play" was rated as the school. During this period, Wu Jian'an also mastered the basic methods of academic research, broadened his thinking and vision, and began to establish his own new way of cultural thinking.

 

Wu Jian'an has not been creating his own plastic arts. In the gap of "learning", he painted a large number of "diary" paintings, and also made some experimental works of comprehensive materials. Although these were not the homework assigned by me, they showed his enthusiasm and ability to "hands-on". Only paper-cut works are my assignment —— the reason of "paper-cut", first, he originally wanted to leather material production plan needs a lot of economic investment, paper-cut and his research on the shadow play similar material technical language; second, I feel that the process of paper-cut production needs strong rational control, can give Wu Jian'an too active perceptual thinking a calm buffer space. During the course of more than two months, Wu and Jian'an also "used their brain" in the "hands" of creation. He thought about the relationship between "tradition" and "modern", "mainstream" and "folk" and other concepts and the cultural position of contemporary artistic creation, and wrote two creative notes. Sketch, oil painting, sculpture and other works are mostly the result of Wu Jian 'an himself, which can be said to be an effective supplement to his personal language expression —— Isn't that the position of plastic arts in culture?

On April 15,2005, Wu Jian'an held a solo exhibition in the Exhibition room of the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, exhibiting some paper-cut works and seven books of his cultural and artistic investigation achievements of the film. Here, I further felt that "knowledge" is a work of art, and "art" is also a deep knowledge.

Wu suan paper-cut works using the traditional folk paper-cut symmetrical pattern, also naturally using a popular way of narrative, in the expression of the topic to the contemporary young people common spiritual and psychological problems, although the traditional religion, fairy tale vocabulary in the flashing, but rendering is reality. And the comfort of human self-spirit and soul is almost the whole meaning of myth and religious existence.

 

Qi Baishi once said —— "Follow me to live, like me to die", is that do not want to learn his people portrait of his works. One of the reasons why I am satisfied with this batch of paper-cut works is also so. Wu Jian'an uses the way of paper-cut, but there is no my shadow in his works, which shows that he is not a person who imitates the appearance of the form. He first picked up scissors and paper to show, completely by accident, in a special period almost let people room breath, he found some kind of company, cut out the first image —— which makes him feel safe, so he continued to cut out several..., like in waking shop for a dream, create a extraordinary guardian, and he can sleep in the day. At this time, the meaning of these paper-cuts is not a "work of art" with social judgment criteria, but something useful to themselves. Therefore, the expression and belief of the self are more and more important, regardless of teaching, nor form.

 

In fact, Wu Jian'an has too many strange ideas, artistic creation also has many attempts, of course, learning and rational thinking storage, he learned to warm some hot tofu and then eat it out —— He does not want to rely on "brainwave" to complete a work.

 

Therefore, I can say that these paper cuts are probably just the beginning of the young artistic experience, and when the world belongs to them, there will be more and more contributions.

 

At present, Wu Jian'an has graduated from the school and works with me in the "Experimental Art Studio" newly established by the Academy of Fine Arts. A few years ago, there are many "national conditions" in the "experimental art" in China, artists still need to do experimental works evasive...... Now, the country's highest fine arts university has opened up such a special space for research, teaching and creation. —— This is a "daydream" of Chinese experimental artists yesterday, and also the place where the dream of future Chinese artists began.
