"The Sea of Time: Opening Exhibition of Gravity Art Museum" is opening at Gravity Art Museum on April 22, 2023. The newly opened Gravity Art Museum is situated at the former Beijing Heavy Electrical Machinery Factory built in 1958. Due to the campaign of deepening reform and innovation ten years ago, many old factories were gradually closed and left unused. The Gravity Art Museum is not rebuilt after bulldozing the old factory, but reconstructed based on its former structure. This new art museum connects the industrial ideal of New China and the cultural spirit of the new era. Multiple time dimensions intersect here to form a timeline of reviewing the past, standing in the present, and looking forward to the future.

The exhibition theme “The Sea of Time” pays tribute to this revitalized industrial building. Fifty works by 37 artists (groups) present six forms of time: Improvisation, Tradition, Wilderness, Abstract, Feeling, and Simulation. Once entering the Gravity Art Museum, the audience can instantly feel the illusion of time. The exhibits showcase the diverse perceptions of time among artists, which stem from the differences in their thoughts and experiences. Time is a myth, and the exhibits are frozen uncertainties, whether they are eternal or instantaneous, precise compositions or improvisational expressions, tracing the spirit of traditional culture, or sensing the virtual world of the metaverse. The audience awaken and restart the time, and new life is extended.
